This was adopted by two albums in 1950, with the bulk of Atlantic’s 10-inch albums launched between 1951 and 1953. The 100 Series launched mainly instrumental jazz LPs, and the four hundred Series featured vocalists. The “8000” and subsequent sequence, started shortly after 1200 in 1956, featured Atlantic’s R&B and pop albums; when the “1200” sequence was discontinued in the 1970s, the jazz albums were combined with the R&B and pop albums in their respective sequence.
The “1200” series was reserved for jazz albums. The series continued till late 1977 when it concluded with SD 1700, and most of the popular jazz artists moved to the SD 18100 Sequence, and a limited variety of albums were launched on the 8800 Series. That is an Atlantic Records Discography, albums released on the Atlantic Information label from its founding until 1982, ordered by catalog number. After one very early experiment in 1953, stereo releases of Atlantic LPs began manufacturing in 1958.
